Africa’s aviation sector continues to grow, with airports in the southern and northern regions dominating the latest rankings of the continent’s top travel hubs.
Based on the 2026 World Airport Awards—determined through global passenger surveys—Cape Town International Airport has been ranked as the best airport in Africa.

The rankings are drawn from feedback provided by travelers from over 100 countries, collected between August 2025 and February 2026.
South Africa stands out strongly, taking three of the top four positions. OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg comes in second, while King Shaka International Airport in Durban ranks fourth.
Morocco also performs well, with Marrakech securing third place and Casablanca completing the top five.
The rest of the top ten reflects a wide geographic spread across the continent. Cairo International Airport places sixth, followed by Mauritius in seventh.

East Africa is represented by Kigali in eighth place and Addis Ababa in ninth, while Antananarivo in Madagascar rounds off the top ten.
These rankings highlight the continent’s growing competitiveness in aviation, showcasing airports that deliver quality service and meet the expectations of international travelers.
