Safaricom, Coca-Cola Among Firms Facing KRA Auction

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has given individuals, companies, and government agencies 30 days to claim goods held at customs warehouses at JKIA or risk having them auctioned.

In a gazette notice dated March 27, KRA stated that items stored at DHL JKIA and Forodha House will be treated as abandoned if not collected by April 27 and will be disposed of accordingly.

Among the entities listed with unclaimed goods are Kenya Power, the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Coca-Cola, Safaricom, Jamii Telecommunications Limited, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and KCA University.

The items earmarked for auction include telecom equipment, mobile phones, laptops, power banks, spare parts, pharmaceuticals, clothing, footwear, and books.

KRA said the goods will be sold through a public online auction scheduled between April 7 and April 30.

Prospective buyers have been encouraged to inspect the items at the customs warehouses located at DHL JKIA and Forodha House on April 2 and April 24 during official working hours.

The authority noted that the action is guided by Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, which permits the disposal of unclaimed goods after the expiry of the notice period.
