Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has officially referred the nominees for various state positions, proposed by President William Ruto, to parliamentary committees for vetting.

This follows the president’s fresh appointments made earlier this week, which include key ministerial roles, positions in state corporations, and diplomatic appointments to Kenya’s foreign missions.
In a statement released on Saturday, Wetangula confirmed that the nominees for the position of Cabinet Secretary have been forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments for review. Some notable nominees include former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo (ICT), Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture), and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui (Investment and Trade).
The Speaker also highlighted that the names of nominees for various diplomatic posts have been directed to the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence & Foreign Relations. These include Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u (High Commissioner to Accra), Dr. Andrew Karanja (Ambassador to Brazil), Ababu Namwamba (Permanent Representative to the UNEP in Nairobi), and Noor Gabow (Consul-General to Port-au-Prince).
Additionally, Wetangula announced that the nominees for the positions of Vice-Chairperson and Members of the Public Service Commission have been referred to the Departmental Committee on Labour for evaluation. The nominees for these roles are Mary Wanjira Kimonye (Vice-Chairperson) and members Harun Maalim Hassan, Mwanamaka Amani Mabruki, Francis Meja, Dr. Irene Cherotich Asienga, Boya Molu, Joan Andisi Machayo, and Dr. Francis Otieno Owino.
“The Committees are required to begin the vetting process as outlined under the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act and Standing Order 45,” Wetangula stated. He emphasized that the committees must submit their reports by January 15, 2025.
To expedite the process, Wetangula confirmed that the committees would be allowed to hold sittings during the parliamentary recess. “At an appropriate time, I will notify all Members of the House of the date and time for Special Sittings to review the reports on the vetting process,” he added. The Clerk has been instructed to communicate these details to all National Assembly members.
