Addressing a joint parliamentary group meeting of UDA and ODM lawmakers on Monday, August 18, the Head of State said he was aware of corrupt dealings within House committees, citing intelligence reports.

“There are genuine concerns about how public resources are being managed in counties, and we cannot ignore them. From the position I hold, I consume raw intelligence. I know what’s happening,” he said.

The President claimed certain MPs received up to Sh10 million each to frustrate the passage of the law.

“Do you know that a few members of your committee collected Sh10 million so that you don’t pass the anti-money laundering law? Did you get the money?” he posed.

Ruto further questioned how some county officials acquire vast sums of money, pointing out cases where individuals were in possession of Sh150 million in questionable circumstances.

He warned that such corruption undermines Parliament’s integrity and erodes public trust.

“There are individuals tarnishing the reputation of Parliament by collecting money in its name. Most of that money doesn’t reach Parliament — it ends up with a few people,” he noted.

Ruto vowed that moving forward, culprits would face arrest rather than public shaming.

“We are not just going to expose them. We will arrest them. Both those who give and those who take bribes must face the law,” he declared.
