Raila Odinga Congratulates DRC’s President, Tshisekedi On Re-Election

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio coalition, extended his congratulations to Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi on Sunday for securing a second term. In his message, Raila conveyed his best wishes to President Tshisekedi for ensuring stability and prosperity in the DRC.

Raila also praised the people of the DRC for peacefully expressing and realizing their aspirations. The former Prime Minister expressed hope that Tshisekedi’s leadership during his second term as president would bring about positive changes.

“Congratulations to President Felix Tshisekedi on his re-election and to the Congolese voters for aspirations peacefully expressed and realized. Wishing him the very best as he continues with the crucial mission of steering the DRC back on course. May his leadership bring about positive change and prosperity for the nation. Wishing the people of DRC all the best in their determination to reclaim, steady and steer their country,” said Raila.

Provisional results announced on Sunday by the country’s electoral commission declared Tshisekedi the winner with approximately 73% of the vote, while his closest rival, Moise Katumbi, secured 18%. The Constitutional Court of the Democratic Republic of Congo is set to confirm the provisional results on January 10.

Despite logistical challenges during the December 20 election, opposition politicians have criticized it as a “sham” and called for a rerun, alleging deliberate issues to favor Tshisekedi. While acknowledging some irregularities, election chief Denis Kadima insisted that the results reflected the will of the Congolese people.

President Tshisekedi is expected to be sworn in for his second term on January 20. Opposition leaders have called for mass protests following the announcement of the results.
