Speaking at a brief press conference, IG Kanja stressed that police officers will operate strictly within the law to safeguard lives and property. He urged protesters to conduct themselves within legal boundaries, adding that police will remain on high alert.
IG Kanja, accompanied by senior security officials including DCI Director Amin Mohamed, GSU Commandant Ranson Lolmodoni, APS Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, and Nairobi Police Commander George Seda, also appealed to the public not to provoke police officers during the demonstrations.
Kanja concluded his address without entertaining questions from journalists.
This comes as Nairobi police boss George Seda assured the public of heightened security measures ahead of Wednesday’s demonstrations.
“We have a security plan in place and we will ensure the safety of both participants and non-participants during the protests,” Seda stated on June 18, 2025.
Seda confirmed that authorities had received formal notification of the planned demonstrations as required by law.
He called for peaceful protests, cautioning against disruptions that could affect others not taking part in the demonstrations.
“It will be a normal working day, and people will be running businesses — hotels, shops, and other activities. It becomes unfortunate when a peaceful protest turns chaotic, defeating its purpose and worsening the situation,” Seda added.
