President Ruto Embarks on Historic 4-Day State Visit to the United States

President Ruto has landed in the United States for a significant four-day diplomatic trip.

His arrival at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport was met with a reception attended by various dignitaries, including Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’Oei, US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

This visit, the first by an African leader in 15 years, aims to bolster the relationship between Kenya and the United States and foster opportunities for investment.

Scheduled from Monday, May 20, to Thursday, May 23, President Ruto’s itinerary includes meetings with President Joe Biden and engagements highlighting shared values and interests.

In Atlanta, President Ruto is set to visit the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum to underscore mutual commitments to governance and anti-corruption measures. He’ll also pay respects to the civil rights movement at the Ebenezer Baptist Church and discuss health partnerships at the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) headquarters.

The visit continues with engagements focused on education, creative economy opportunities, and investment discussions, culminating in a dinner hosted by Atlanta’s mayor.

President Ruto will then proceed to Washington, DC, where he will receive full ceremonial state honors and engage in high-level discussions with congressional representatives and President Biden.

This visit underscores the strong partnership between Kenya and the US, covering various critical areas such as defense cooperation, democracy, governance, health, and regional issues. It highlights Kenya’s strategic importance as a regional hub and commercial gateway to East Africa.

This trip marks the first state visit by a Kenyan head of state in two decades and the first by an African president since 2018.
