President Ruto Appoints Habil Olaka as New Hustler Fund Chair

President William Ruto has appointed Habil Olaka as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the Advisory Board for the Financial Inclusion Fund.

Olaka, the former CEO of the Kenya Bankers Association, will serve a three-year term starting February 21, 2025.

The appointment was announced in a gazette notice dated February 21, where President Ruto exercised his powers under the Public Finance Management Regulations and the Interpretation and General Provisions Act. Along with Olaka’s appointment, President Ruto also revoked the appointment of Irene Muthoni Metha Karimi, who had held the position since January 2023 when the Hustler Fund was launched.

In March 2024, the Kenya Bankers Association’s Governing Council announced Olaka’s retirement after he had served as CEO since 2010.

In a separate move, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba also revoked Christopher Langat’s appointment as a board member of the Commission for University Education, effective February 21, 2025.
