Meg Whitman, the outgoing US Ambassador to Kenya, has expressed her deep gratitude to the people of Kenya as she prepares to leave the country.
In a video shared on her X account, Whitman called it an honor to serve as the US Ambassador to Kenya. Reflecting on her tenure since her arrival in August 2022, she shared how her time in Kenya had allowed her to connect with many people and form lasting friendships.
“As I wrap up my time at the Embassy, I want to take a moment to say ‘Asante sana’ to all the incredible friends I’ve made in Kenya,” Whitman said.
Throughout her tenure, Whitman traveled to 28 counties and witnessed firsthand the growing collaboration between the US and Kenya in building a brighter future for both nations. She highlighted the impressive efforts of Kenyans working to create jobs, improve healthcare, strengthen democracy, and deepen ties between the two countries.
“I met extraordinary Kenyans who are committed to improving their communities and deepening the partnership between our nations,” she noted.
Whitman also mentioned her privilege in sharing Kenya’s inspiring stories with Americans, connecting US business leaders with opportunities in Kenya’s tech sector, and participating in the historic White House visit with President William Ruto.
“At the start of my term, I often asked, ‘Why Africa? Why Kenya?’ Today, nobody is asking that question anymore. The world now recognizes Kenya’s vast potential,” she said.
Reflecting on her time in Kenya, Whitman fondly recalled the country’s stunning landscapes, dynamic economy, and, most importantly, the warm hospitality of the Kenyan people.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as the US Ambassador to Kenya and for the lasting friendships I’ve made,” she concluded. “Asante sana!”
