Police Launch Nationwide Alco-Blow Operation Ahead of New Year

Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja has assured Kenyans that security measures are at their highest ahead of New Year 2026 celebrations.

In a statement, the IG extended warm wishes for peace, hope, and prosperity, describing the New Year transition as a “moment of reflection, renewal, and national celebration.” He emphasized both police readiness and the shared responsibility of citizens in ensuring safety.

Kanja confirmed that officers have been deployed across the country to protect lives and property in public spaces, including towns, residential areas, places of worship, entertainment venues, and major transport corridors.

He stressed that security is a collective responsibility, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take personal measures to stay safe.

On road safety, the IG cautioned against excessive alcohol consumption, highlighting it as a leading cause of preventable accidents and fatalities. To enforce road safety, the National Police Service, in collaboration with other agencies, is conducting breathalyzer operations nationwide. Motorists were urged to cooperate fully with officers and to adhere strictly to traffic rules, speed limits, and considerate driving practices.

Regarding fireworks and celebrations, Kanja mandated that such activities should only be carried out by licensed operators with proper approvals. The public was reminded to respect neighbors, particularly children, the elderly, and persons with special needs, to prevent disturbances or risks to public safety.

Parents and guardians were advised to monitor their children’s movements, while business owners and managers of entertainment venues were reminded of their duty to maintain order, avoid overcrowding, and comply with all licensing and safety regulations.

“As we welcome the New Year, let us choose peace over conflict, responsibility over recklessness, and care for one another over selfishness,” Kanja said.
