On Friday, authorities apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in the brutal killing of socialite Starlet Wahu Mwangi.
Wahu, aged 26, reportedly the younger sibling of a controversial evangelical pastor in the city, was discovered lifeless in a South B Airbnb in Nairobi. Surveillance footage indicated that she and the alleged assailant had entered the Airbnb on the night of January 3.

A postmortem examination revealed that Wahu had been strangled and had suffered a deep cut wound on her thigh, severing a vein. The autopsy further disclosed significant blood loss as a contributing factor to her demise.
According to a statement from a guard at the apartment, the suspect left the premises the next day with bloodstained clothes, appearing distressed and nursing an injury to his leg. The guard promptly alerted the homeowner, who, upon entering with a spare key, discovered Wahu’s lifeless and unclothed body in the living room, indicating signs of a struggle.
Upon the arrival of the police, a knife, two HIV test kits, and a used condom were recovered from the scene. Makadara police boss Judith Nyongesa reported that Wahu had bled to death due to a severed vein leading to her heart.
The assailant managed to flee the scene, but he was later apprehended at a city hospital, seeking medical attention for injuries to his legs and hands. In his statement to the police, the suspect claimed that the deceased woman had attacked him, leading to a fatal confrontation.
The suspect appeared in court on Friday, where authorities successfully sought a 21-day custodial order for further investigation. CCTV footage captured the last moments of Wahu, showing her in the company of a man in a denim shirt as they checked into the apartment. The motive behind the murder remains under investigation.
