According to police and local residents, the girl went missing on May 24 after being sent to a nearby shop. Her body was discovered the following day, naked and bearing signs of abuse, including a deep cut to the throat, in a dam located in the Shobe area of Munyaka.

Her mother identified the body, which was later taken to the Engineer Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Upon visiting the scene, police discovered a possible crime scene in a house roughly 100 meters from the dam. The house, used as a store, along with an outdoor toilet on the premises, drew attention after investigators found traces of blood inside one of the rooms. In the toilet, they recovered pieces of clothing, including part of a scarf the girl was last seen wearing.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing.

Separate Incident in Migori

Meanwhile, at Moi Girls Nyabohanse in Migori County, a Form Two student died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, May 25.

The unexplained death sparked unrest among students, leading to a riot in which school property was damaged before order was restored. Around 20 students reportedly fainted in shock after learning of their schoolmate’s death and were treated at a nearby hospital.

Detectives are currently probing the incident, as concerned parents visited the school overnight and into Monday morning following news of the tragedy and subsequent chaos.

The body of the deceased student was taken to the mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
