Nine Arrested in NACADA Crackdown in Homa Bay

Nine people were arrested in Migori on Wednesday during a crackdown targeting alcohol outlets that were not complying with regulations.

The operation was carried out by officials from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) from the Migori County Office in Homa Bay Town.

According to NACADA, the operation’s goal was to ensure that alcohol businesses in Homa Bay Town were fully adhering to legal requirements.

“On Wednesday, the Migori County Office led a multi-agency operation in Homa Bay Town and nearby areas to enforce compliance with relevant laws. As a result, nine individuals were arrested for various offenses and processed accordingly,” NACADA said in a statement on X.

The authority urged the public to cooperate with compliance officers to help combat drug abuse in the county and nationwide.

They encouraged residents to report any suspicious or unlawful activities in their communities.

The public was also urged to report any suspected illegal drug use or practices in the area through NACADA’s hotline, 1192.

Additionally, NACADA called on residents to familiarize themselves with local laws and regulations to help maintain a safe and lawful environment.

“Get familiar with the laws and regulations to contribute to a safer and law-abiding community,” NACADA advised.

The authority also emphasized the importance of working together to create drug-free neighborhoods.

“Collaborate in building drug-free communities by mentoring young people, supporting rehabilitation efforts, and promoting healthy lifestyles,” NACADA added.

NACADA has been conducting road shows across the country to raise awareness about the need for a drug-free society.

On Wednesday, NACADA teams visited Empopogi Primary School, Duka Moja, and Suswa in Narok County to spread messages of resilience and positive choices.

During these events, residents were urged to resist peer pressure and make decisions that protect their health and future.

“Alcohol and drug use can impair judgment. Stay alert to ensure safety, both on the road and in daily life,” NACADA warned.
