The discovery of mutilated bodies in Nairobi’s Mukuru kwa Njenga slums continues to unfold, with more polythene-wrapped sacks being recovered on the second day.
The investigation involves officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a homicide team, and the Recce squad at the Kware dumpsite.
Yesterday, human rights groups reported finding more than nine bodies, contrasting with police claims of six bodies retrieved. Crowds of local residents gathered near the dumpsite to witness the bodies, all wrapped and tied similarly, indicating a possible common perpetrator.
DCI chief Mohamed Amin confirmed that homicide detectives were collecting evidence for identification purposes.
“Initial findings suggest a consistent method of killing,” Amin stated. The bodies have been transferred to the City Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations to confirm their condition, estimated to have been deceased for one to two weeks based on witness accounts.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) urged President William Ruto’s administration to clarify the circumstances surrounding these mutilated bodies.
In response, the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) instructed the Inspector General of Police to expedite the investigation.
Following the resignation of Japhet Koome as IG, President Ruto appointed Douglas Kanja as Acting IG.
