The victim is married to a businessman who legally owns the weapon involved in the incident.

The shooting occurred Sunday morning at their home in Riara Apartments, near Ngong Road. The man told authorities he had just returned home and asked his wife to help carry three bags from his car, one of which contained a loaded Beretta pistol.

Unaware that the firearm was inside, the woman lifted the bags and placed them down in the parking area. Police believe that setting the bag down may have triggered the accidental discharge.

While still in the parking lot, the man reportedly heard a gunshot and rushed over to find his wife bleeding from her right leg. He immediately took her to the hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Investigators said the pistol, which had 15 bullets and an open safety catch, fired inside the bag. The bullet struck a wall and ricocheted, hitting the woman. The bag was also damaged in the process.

Police officers have visited both the hospital and the apartment as part of their investigation. The firearm has since been confiscated from the husband and is being held as evidence.
