Kenyans will celebrate Mashujaa Day on Sunday, October 20, 2025 — a national holiday dedicated to honouring individuals who played a vital role in the nation’s liberation and progress.
The main ceremony will take place at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County, with President William Ruto officiating.

Thousands are expected to gather for the occasion, which will include military displays, cultural showcases, and the recognition of exceptional citizens.
Originally known as Kenyatta Day, the holiday was renamed Mashujaa Day following the 2010 Constitution to pay tribute to all national heroes, not just the country’s founding leaders.
Authorities have heightened security nationwide in preparation for the celebrations.
