The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has threatened to withdraw from the Social Health Authority (SHA) medical scheme, citing difficulties teachers are facing in accessing healthcare services.
Union officials, speaking during celebrations of Aggrey Namisi’s re-election as KNUT national deputy chairperson, said they are reviewing their participation in the scheme due to ongoing complaints from members.

KNUT also warned that it could stage a nationwide teachers’ strike if the government fails to resolve the issues surrounding the SHA cover.
The concerns were echoed by Kakamega County treasurer Jacklyne Mulindi and leaders from Bungoma, who argued that the scheme is facing widespread challenges affecting many citizens.
At the same time, teachers from western Kenya were encouraged to unite to strengthen their voice within the union, as they welcomed Namisi’s return to the national leadership. The appeal was made by Vihiga KNUT secretary Maurice Chalenga.
