Kitui County has officially rolled out its Tourism Circuit, a landmark project aimed at showcasing the region’s diverse attractions and positioning it as a leading destination in Kenya.
Governor Julius Malombe unveiled the circuit on Saturday during World Tourism Day 2025 celebrations at the iconic Nzambani Rock in Kitui East. Themed “Unveiling the Rich and Diverse Tourism Treasures of Kitui County,” the event marked the fulfillment of one of the governor’s key manifesto pledges.

Malombe said the initiative goes beyond tourism, describing it as a driver of economic transformation, job creation, cultural pride, and global visibility for Kitui.
“Tourism is not just leisure and travel; it is a major economic pillar. It creates jobs—particularly for youth and women—generates revenue, supports SMEs, and drives rural development,” he said.
The new circuit seeks to bring coherence and visibility to Kitui’s scattered attractions, packaging them into a structured and marketable experience that can lengthen visitor stays and improve itineraries.
Among the highlighted attractions are South Kitui National Game Reserve, Mutomo Hill Plant Sanctuary and Reptile Park, Nzambani Rock, Kalundu Eco-Park, Mutitu and Muumoni Bird Areas, Ngomeni Rock, and Mwingi National Reserve. The county also boasts scenic landscapes such as Ikoo Valley, Ulonzo Hills, and Kiongwe Hills, along with historic and sacred sites including the Ikutha AIC Missionary Church and Museve Shrine.
Additionally, Kitui’s rich cultural traditions—expressed through music, dance, crafts, and cuisine—were cited as unique experiences that make the county an all-round destination.
Malombe said the county is investing in infrastructure such as modern gates and improved access points to safeguard and promote its natural heritage while enhancing visitor safety and comfort.
“Our goal is to unlock Kitui’s full tourism potential, empower local communities, and proudly share our heritage with Kenya and the world,” he affirmed.
