Gacami Coffee Factory, under the Baragwi Farmers Cooperative Society, leads with the highest rate of Ksh145.10 per kilogram, followed closely by Karumandi at Ksh144.30 and Mukure at Ksh144.25.
This financial boost is attributed to comprehensive reforms in the coffee sector, including the provision of subsidized farm inputs, enhanced agronomic training, and the establishment of direct sales channels through the Nairobi Coffee Exchange.
The formation of the Kirinyaga Slopes Coffee Brokerage Company Limited, licensed by the Capital Markets Authority, has enabled farmers to bypass intermediaries, ensuring better returns.
Governor Anne Waiguru emphasized that these reforms are yielding tangible benefits for farmers, stating that county-level interventions, combined with national support, are delivering real impact. Farmers like Josphat Gachoki of Gacami Factory expressed optimism, noting the significant improvement in payouts and hoping the trend continues.
With an annual production averaging 40,000 tonnes of coffee and earnings around Ksh2.8 billion, Kirinyaga’s coffee industry is witnessing a revitalization that promises sustained profitability for its farmers.
