Police are investigating the death of a 75-year-old man whose body was found dumped in a thicket in Juja, Kiambu County, following an alleged abduction.
Stephen Gitonga Gacheru was reportedly kidnapped from a parking yard in Thika Town on January 22, 2026, and his body was discovered the next day in the Mugutha area.

Authorities said the man appeared to have been beaten to death, though the motive for the killing remains unclear. Reports indicate that the abductors demanded a ransom, using the victim’s phone to contact his family.
Gacheru’s son said he received a call from his father, a businessman in Kamenu, Thika Town, requesting Sh20,000 for an emergency. He sent the money but later realized the call did not go through when he tried to confirm. His mother and sister also received similar calls.

The family reported the matter to police after the kidnappers allegedly threatened further harm if the ransom was not paid.
Officers pursued suspects from Thika Town to Machakos and back to Juja on Thursday, but the operation ended at 3 a.m. without any arrests.
