Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka revealed that the aircraft will resume service on July 22. It is one of three Dreamliners that had been grounded due to global engine shortages and supply chain issues.

The aircraft’s return will bring Kenya Airways’ available seat capacity to 85%, enhancing passenger experience and easing operational pressure.

Kilavuka also confirmed timelines for the remaining two grounded Dreamliners: the second is expected to be operational by September 25, 2025, and the third by December 19, 2025.

To further strengthen its fleet, the airline plans to introduce three additional narrow-body aircraft by the last quarter of 2025. This expansion will add 528 seats and boost belly cargo capacity by 239%.

“This marks a major milestone in restoring our operational strength,” Kilavuka said, expressing confidence that the upgrades and fleet expansion will help meet rising passenger demand.

He acknowledged the disruptions that customers have experienced — including delays, cancellations, and revised schedules — attributing them primarily to difficulties in obtaining spare parts.

Kilavuka assured customers that Kenya Airways is working diligently to resolve these issues and minimise future inconveniences.

“We recognise the disruption caused and are fully committed to restoring dependable service,” he said.

The airline is also streamlining its route network and improving operational performance to enhance service reliability.

Kilavuka thanked the airline’s technical teams and industry partners for their efforts in getting the Dreamliner back into service. He also praised the Kenya Airways staff for their dedication and commitment to offering what he described as “authentic African warm hospitality.”
