Speaking during a public engagement on Monday, Kalonzo noted that Ruto focused on him rather than his agenda during a visit to Kiambu.
“Ruto was in Kiambu talking about me and my home area, claiming there are no roads,” he said, correcting Ruto’s claim that he has been in leadership for 50 years, stating it is 40 years.
The former vice president highlighted his contributions to major infrastructure projects in Kitui and surrounding areas, including the Kibwezi–Mutomo–Kitui–Mwingi–Tseikuru–Maua road, built with Chinese contractor Sinohydro, which links Ethiopia to Mombasa.

Ruto had on Sunday criticized Kalonzo as a naysayer, questioning his authority to lecture on development and noting that the road to his home remained untarmacked despite decades in politics.
Defending his road-building agenda, Ruto reiterated plans to construct 28,000 kilometres of roads by 2032, citing past achievements of 10,000km under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
