Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale Removed as Senate Majority Whip

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has been formally removed from his position as Senate Majority Whip following a decision by the UDA party, marking a major shift in the Senate’s leadership lineup.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi confirmed the development on Tuesday after receiving official communication from the ruling party indicating that a resolution had been passed to oust Khalwale in line with Standing Order 225.

“From the correspondence, the minutes show that a resolution was passed to remove the Senate Majority Whip Boni Khalwale,” Speaker Kingi announced during the afternoon plenary.

The change takes effect immediately, with Bungoma Senator David Wakoli Wafula appointed as the new Senate Majority Whip.

Kingi noted that under Standing Order 228, he had verified the authenticity of the communication before issuing the announcement to the House.

“I can confirm that the majority party has effected a change in the office of the Senate Majority Whip, and the new office holder is Senator David Wafula,” Kingi stated.

Khalwale, who was in the chamber during the announcement, appeared subdued, seemingly aware that the decision was imminent.

The move strips him of the influential role that involved maintaining party discipline and steering key government legislation through the Senate.

His removal now paves the way for Wakoli to take charge of the majority side’s legislative agenda.
