William Kabogo, the Cabinet Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, has refuted claims that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta played a part in his appointment to President William Ruto’s Cabinet.

In an interview on Citizen TV, Kabogo dismissed rumors suggesting that Uhuru had approved his appointment after meeting Ruto in December of the previous year.

“Kenya is a dynamic country with lots of rumors and baseless stories. After the President’s visit to Ichaweri, people started saying things, but I can assure you, it had nothing to do with that visit,” Kabogo explained.

He went on to share that before his appointment, he received a brief phone call from President Ruto, which lasted less than a minute. Although the President indicated he might be considering Kabogo for a role in his administration, he did not specify the exact position.
“The President just said he was looking into something, and later, I saw on the news that I had been nominated as a Cabinet Secretary. I never received a call from the former President, and I haven’t spoken to him in a long time,” Kabogo said. “The only call I got was from President Ruto, and it lasted less than a minute. He mentioned he was considering me for something, but didn’t elaborate. After that, I saw it in the media.”
Kabogo admitted that the nomination came as a surprise but expressed readiness to take on the responsibility.
“I’m as surprised as anyone else, but I’m ready for this role. My track record shows I can deliver. I’m adapting quickly to the job, and while it’s challenging, I’m prepared to tackle it,” he said.
