Officer Jacob Ogendo asked the court to drop the case against Njoroge, explaining that his decision was made from a parental perspective. He confirmed to Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi that he understood the case would not be revived once he chose to withdraw it.

Magistrate Ekhubi granted the request, stating, “Having heard from the complainant, Jacob Ogendo, about his desire to withdraw all charges in the case, with the consent of the DPP and following Article 129(2)(c) allowing for out-of-court settlement, I hereby allow the application.”

The court also ordered that a bond of Sh700,000, which had been deposited for Njoroge, be refunded.

In June 2024, Njoroge was charged with robbery with violence when he appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi. He denied three charges.

The charge sheet indicated that on June 2, Njoroge, along with others not before the court, allegedly robbed Corporal Jacob Ogendo of a police communication gadget and a mobile phone worth Sh50,000. The prosecution stated that he also injured the officer during the robbery.

Njoroge faced a second count for unlawfully beating the officer and causing him grievous harm on the same day and at the same location. Additionally, he was accused of resisting arrest by Ogendo, who was carrying out his duties at the time.

Later in June 2024, Njoroge issued an apology to the public and the officer, promising that the incident would not be repeated. “I take this chance to offer my apologies to the state and Jacob Ogendo. I am sorry, and it will never happen again,” he said.

Njoroge’s parents also apologized on his behalf and expressed gratitude to Sonko for helping release Ian from remand.
