Kenyan citizens now have the convenience of accessing information from Huduma centers directly through their phones with the introduction of a new contact center number, 1919, as announced by Huduma Kenya on Tuesday.
A notice shared on their official social media platforms exclaimed, “It’s short and sweet. 1919 Ndio Form!”
Huduma Kenya was established to streamline the delivery of a wide range of government services under one roof known as the Huduma Centre. This initiative consolidates various public services into a single location, facilitating easy access for Kenyan citizens.
The inaugural Huduma Center in Nairobi was inaugurated in 2013 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and then-Deputy President William Ruto at the Teleposta Building in Nairobi.
These centers offer a plethora of services including driver’s license issuance, national identity card processing, National Social Security Fund (NSSF) services, National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) registration and claims, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) student loan applications and repayments, registration of welfare groups, police abstract issuance, single business permit acquisition, stamp duty assessment, among others.
Last year, Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, commended the establishment of Huduma Centres by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kuria expressed the current government’s commitment, led by President William Ruto, to expand the program to sub-county levels, starting with Molo.
A significant development occurred on Monday as judicial services were launched in six pilot Huduma Centres, namely Nairobi GPO, City Square, Makadara, Kibra, Eastleigh, and Kiambu. These judicial desks will be manned by Judiciary staff and will offer services such as filing new civil cases, filing documents for existing cases, issuance of summons, court orders, decrees, and proceedings, as well as e-filing support, fine payments, and virtual court support.
CS Kuria also announced plans to extend these judicial services to all 52 Huduma Centres nationwide and eventually to all Huduma Jitume Centres in the 290 constituencies through collaboration with MPs, the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, and his ministry.
Simultaneously, training for National Police Officers attached to all 52 Huduma Centres at the National Police College main campus in Kiganjo commenced on the same day. This training aims to enhance customer service excellence, particularly for front-line officers, aligning with the Huduma Kenya Customer Excellence training program’s customer-centric approach.
The training session is scheduled to run for 10 days, from January 29 to February 9, 2024.
