Gachagua Hints at New Political Alliance Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at plans to create a new political alliance ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

During a speech in Murang’a on Sunday, Gachagua shared that he is in ongoing discussions with religious leaders and political allies who share his views, with a formal announcement expected in January.

“I am talking to religious leaders and politicians. Come January, I will reveal the outcome of our talks,” Gachagua said.

“We will never again allow ourselves to end up in the same situation we’re in now,” he added.

Gachagua also accused his former boss of betrayal and misleading the region during the lead-up to the 2022 general election.

These comments come as growing calls emerge from Gachagua’s political allies to create a new political platform for the 2027 elections, following his impeachment last month.

Gachagua became Kenya’s first Deputy President to be impeached after the Senate upheld his removal on October 17, following a decision by the National Assembly.

Since his removal from office, Gachagua has been outspoken in his criticism of the government, accusing it of using intimidation and harassment.

Previously, Gachagua raised concerns about alleged surveillance by state agents, claiming that unmarked vehicles had been following him and monitoring his movements.

In a series of tweets, Gachagua recounted an incident where a suspicious car was parked outside his Nairobi home and allegedly trailed him to various locations.

He compared the tactics to those used by Kenya’s past authoritarian regimes and expressed concerns for his personal safety.
