Police in Kisii are searching for four suspects who escaped custody after breaking through their cell door.
A police report indicates that the suspects also assaulted a guard before fleeing the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the escapees to contact the nearest police station.
According to the report, personnel from the report office and Leah Temko, the cell sentry, informed the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) via phone that the four inmates had broken the cell door. One of them struck the guard with a wooden frame from the door before escaping.
The inmates were being held on charges such as assault and possession of bhang.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a search for the escapees and is urging the public to provide any information that could assist in their re-arrest.
