Police in Bungoma County are investigating the brutal killing of an elderly woman whose body was discovered dumped along a footpath in Bumula.
The victim, identified as Marceline Nasambu Wambuti, 80, was found in a swampy area in South Bukusu village after being missing for two days. Authorities are probing whether she was sexually assaulted before being murdered.

Police officers who visited the scene moved the body to the mortuary for a post-mortem as investigations continue. No arrests have been made so far.
Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud confirmed the incident, saying detectives are pursuing leads to uncover the motive behind the killing.
In a separate incident in Rigoma, Nyamira County, a 60-year-old man, Nyakundi Mwamba, was also found dead along a footpath.

Police reported that Mwamba’s eyes had been gouged out and his face bore severe injuries, suggesting he was attacked with blunt objects.
The motive for both murders remains unclear as investigations continue.
