During the ceremony, CS Wandayi reaffirmed the national government’s commitment to achieving universal electricity access.
“The Last Mile Connectivity programme is central to promoting socio-economic development at the grassroots,” he said.
He added that improved electricity access will boost small and medium enterprises, enhance school learning environments, strengthen security, and elevate living standards in rural communities.
MP Kapondi described the project as transformative for Mt. Elgon Constituency.
“Reliable electricity will unlock economic opportunities, especially for youth and women running small businesses,” he said, thanking the national government for prioritizing the constituency in the electrification rollout.
Deputy Governor Mbatiany emphasized the county government’s support for national development initiatives, noting that better power connectivity will encourage agricultural value addition and attract local investment.
Chesikaki MCA Jacob Psero called on residents to protect Kenya Power infrastructure to ensure the project’s sustainability and continued service delivery.

Local entrepreneur James Kiprop praised the project, saying reliable power will allow traders to expand operations and reduce reliance on expensive alternative energy sources.
The Last Mile Connectivity Project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to provide universal household electricity access and drive inclusive economic growth nationwide.
