Kanjama succeeds Faith Odhiambo, whose two-year term has now come to an end. Bringing more than 20 years of legal experience, he will serve during the 2026–2028 council term.

His win signals members’ preference for experienced and steady leadership at a time when the society’s voice in national matters remains critical. Although he acknowledged the weighty responsibilities awaiting him, Kanjama’s election ushers in a new phase expected to emphasise professionalism and the significance of the office.

Observers anticipate that his tenure will further cement the LSK’s influence within Kenya’s governance and legal landscape.

The elections, held every two years, saw lawyers across the country vote for the President, Vice-President and Council representatives of the society, which represents more than 20,000 practising advocates.

The 2026 race followed the 2024 contest in which Odhiambo clinched the presidency with 3,113 votes in a field of five candidates.

Voting took place at High Court stations nationwide under the supervision of the LSK Elections Board, with the exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The collaboration between LSK and the IEBC is part of a broader partnership aimed at enhancing electoral credibility and addressing procedural gaps identified in past polls. Formalised during a recent meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Nairobi, the partnership reflects a shift toward proactive reforms ahead of the 2027 General Election.
