Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Has Resigned.

Following intense pressure from his party, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his resignation, ending his nine-year term in office.

Trudeau has said he will remain in office until his Liberal Party can choose a new leader, and parliament will be adjourned – or suspended – until March 24.

“This country deserves a better choice in the upcoming elections and it has become clear that if I have to fight a civil war, I cannot be a better choice in those elections,” he said during a press conference on Monday.

Trudeau came to power in 2015, aged 43 at the time, promising a new kind of politics focused on open policies on immigration, raising taxes on the wealthy and combating climate change.
