Babu Owino Accuses Sakaja of Partying in South Africa Amid Embakasi Tragedy

During an ODM rally in Kamukunji on Sunday, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino criticized Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for his absence during a gas explosion tragedy in Embakasi that claimed three lives and injured over 200 people. Babu alleged that while the residents of Nairobi suffered, Sakaja was enjoying birthday celebrations in South Africa.

According to Babu, Sakaja’s absence was particularly egregious as those injured in the explosion struggled to receive treatment at Mama Lucy Hospital due to a shortage of drugs.

Despite Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri visiting the accident site and Mama Lucy Hospital to offer condolences, Sakaja remained noticeably absent. On the day of the explosion, Sakaja was celebrating his birthday, as evidenced by a video shared on his WhatsApp channel where his staff wished him well.

Although Sakaja issued a statement regarding the blast, he has not been seen at the blast site or Mama Lucy Hospital, where many victims were admitted.
