Arsenal Exit FA Cup After Penalty Defeat to Man United

Ten-man Manchester United triumphed over Arsenal in a penalty shootout to progress to the FA Cup fourth round.

United were reduced to 10 players for nearly an hour after Diogo Dalot received a second yellow card for a mistimed challenge on Mikel Merino.

Manchester United initially took the lead in the 52nd minute with a brilliant goal from Bruno Fernandes, who curled in a shot from Alejandro Garnacho’s assist after a slip from Gabriel.

Dalot was sent off in the 61st minute for his foul, and Arsenal quickly equalized when Gabriel volleyed in from close range.

Arsenal then had a golden opportunity to go ahead when Harry Maguire was penalized for a foul on Kai Havertz in the box, resulting in a penalty. After a brief altercation involving Maguire, Havertz, and Gabriel, Martin Ødegaard took the spot-kick, but Altay Bayindir made a superb save.

Despite more chances from Declan Rice and Havertz, Arsenal couldn’t break the deadlock, with Bayindir continuing to shine in goal.

In extra time, Arsenal pressed for a winner with their numerical advantage, but United’s defense held firm. Havertz missed his penalty in the shootout, and Joshua Zirkzee sealed the win for United, sending David Raya the wrong way.

The result means Arsenal are out of the FA Cup at the third-round stage for the third time in four years.
