Ivory Coast, the hosts of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), have dismissed coach Jean-Louis Gasset during the ongoing tournament, as announced by the country’s football federation (FIF) on Wednesday.
The decision to terminate the contracts of both Gasset and his assistant Ghislain Printant was attributed to unsatisfactory results. Following a humiliating 4-0 defeat by Equatorial Guinea in their recent Group A match on Monday, the two-time champions find themselves in a precarious position, needing favorable outcomes in the final group matches to advance to the knockout phase.
Ivory Coast has only faced group stage elimination once in the past nine editions of the tournament, which occurred in 2017.
