The family has announced that the funeral service for Mzee Mkweha will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday at Kamale Primary School, followed by his burial at the family home.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 20, at the family’s homestead in Kamale village, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory.
“As we come together to celebrate his extraordinary life, we cherish the beautiful memories and valuable lessons he shared with us,” the family said.
Mzee Kingi passed away on February 9 while receiving treatment at Pandya Memorial Hospital’s ICU in Mombasa.
His family remembered him as a wise, kind, and resilient man.
In a heartfelt announcement on Sunday, Speaker Kingi reflected on their shared experiences.
“Dad, our patriarch Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa has passed on. I am deeply saddened, especially when I recall the struggles you faced to shape me into who I am today,” he said.
Kingi spoke of the hardships his father endured, including numerous health battles that often left him weakened.
He also shared a touching memory from the 2024 Christmas holidays, when they danced together for the first time in years.
“Since becoming an adult, I never thought I would dance with you, Dad. But on December 24, 2024, at Mjanaheri village, we danced together for the first time, celebrating not just Christmas, but your remarkable recovery after years of illness. I didn’t know then that it would be our first and last dance,” Kingi recalled.
