Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki also offered him an alternative fine of Sh53.5 million. Additionally, Waititu has been banned from holding any public office for 10 years.
The sentencing follows his conviction for improperly awarding tenders in Kiambu County in February 2018 during his tenure as governor.
Waititu’s wife, Susan Wangari, was sentenced to one year in prison or a fine of Sh500,000 for handling public property worth Sh7.1 million.
Other individuals involved in the case include Luka Mwangi Wahinya, the former Kiambu Chief Officer for Roads, Transport, Public Works, and Utilities, who will serve 2 years in prison or pay a fine of Sh1 million, along with a mandatory fine of Sh20 million or 5 years in prison if unpaid.
Charles Chege Mbuthia and Beth Wangeci, Directors of Testimony Enterprises Limited, were sentenced to 4 years in prison unless they pay a fine of Sh2 million plus a mandatory fine of Sh294 million.
The Director of Public Prosecutions successfully proved that the accused were guilty of conflict of interest, abuse of office, fraudulent procurement practices, illicit acquisition of public property, and dealing with suspected property.
