He clarified that during his tenure as Deputy President, he served as an elected official, and as such, he refrains from commenting on Kindiki, who was appointed to the position. “I have no problem with him. I am an elected leader, and I cannot comment on an appointee. I’m focused on my own things,” Gachagua remarked.

Following the National Assembly’s approval of allegations against Gachagua and their subsequent confirmation by the Senate, President William Ruto nominated Kithure Kindiki, the then-Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, as the new Deputy President. Kindiki was later confirmed by the National Assembly and sworn into office.

Gachagua’s comments come weeks after Kindiki expressed that their relationship had remained unchanged despite Gachagua’s impeachment. Kindiki reaffirmed their friendship, saying, “Our relationship is the same as it was. We’re good people, good friends.”

When asked about lessons learned from Gachagua’s term, Kindiki declined to comment on his predecessor, stating that it would be inappropriate to compare himself to the former Deputy President. “Please allow me not to discuss my brother Rigathi Gachagua. It is wrong to start comparing myself with the person who held this office,” he said.

Regarding the impeachment process, Kindiki noted that it involved all arms of government, and he saw no issue with it. He added that should any problems arise, there is a clear constitutional process to address them.

It is important to recall that Kindiki and Gachagua were the two individuals President Ruto had to choose from as his deputy ahead of the 2022 general elections. Ultimately, Ruto selected Gachagua, while Kindiki was appointed to lead the Interior Ministry.
