A child has tragically lost his life in a road accident in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

The 3-year-old boy was killed instantly when he was struck by a lorry during the accident, which took place late Friday evening.

The incident was reported to the Athi River police station shortly after it occurred, and a senior traffic officer confirmed the death, stating that the boy died on the spot after being hit by the vehicle. The officer requested anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the press.
Two other individuals, including a pregnant woman, were injured when the truck, which was carrying construction bricks, knocked them down. Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry, traveling from Phase 3 toward Gossip, lost control while climbing a hill and rolled back, causing the accident.
The child was reportedly with his father at the time of the incident. The vehicle also hit a kiosk, injuring its owner. Traffic officers responded quickly to the scene and cleared the area.

The body was taken to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary, awaiting an autopsy, while the injured were also taken to the same hospital for treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
A report from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicated that road deaths in 2024 were the highest ever, with nearly 5,000 fatalities, marking an increase of about 500 from 2023. December alone saw 470 deaths, a 10% rise from the previous year. Motorcycles, as well as commercial and private vehicles, were responsible for the majority of these crashes.
