The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a warning to road users ahead of the school reopening next week.

They emphasized the importance of prioritizing children’s safety as they return to school.
The NTSA outlined several conditions for motorists to follow in order to prevent road accidents. They urged road users to take extra care as the festive season ends and the new school term begins.
The Authority highlighted that everyone has a role in ensuring road safety and preventing accidents that could lead to fatalities or injuries.
NTSA also noted an increase in the violation of traffic rules observed during nationwide multi-agency road safety checks. They warned that such behaviors could pose a risk to children’s safety during the school reopening period.
The Authority called on road users to adhere to the Highway Code, slow down, and stay vigilant to safeguard children. They reminded private motorists, public service vehicle operators, school authorities, and parents/guardians of their responsibility in ensuring children’s safety.
Furthermore, NTSA stated that vehicles used to transport children must be insured, roadworthy, equipped with functional speed limiters, and compliant with licensing and inspection regulations.
They also urged parents and guardians to use the free NTSA Mobile App to verify the safety details of public service vehicles, drivers, and conductors before allowing children to board.
NTSA stressed that children should not be allowed to board non-compliant vehicles and appealed to the public to report reckless drivers and non-compliant vehicles. They affirmed that road safety is a shared responsibility for all.
