Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka has demanded the unconditional release of all individuals allegedly abducted in recent weeks, urging the government to act within 12 hours.
Onyonka, speaking out against the rising cases of abductions, warned that Kenyans of goodwill are entitled to protest under Article 37 of the 2010 Constitution if the victims are not freed.
This follows a surge in abductions, with at least seven people reported missing since December 17, 2024. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights confirmed that 82 people have been abducted since June, with 29 still unaccounted for. In the past three months alone, 13 abduction cases have been reported.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on families of the missing to report to the police and provide detailed information. He assured that the government would fully support investigations into the incidents.
Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua alleged the existence of a secret unit behind the abductions, claiming that it operates outside the police chain of command and is based in a building in Nairobi. He vowed to expose those responsible if the unit is not disbanded.
