Legal action has been taken against Nairobi County Government, NEMA, and EPRA regarding the fire incident in Embakasi.
A gas cylinder depot explosion on February 1st resulted in casualties and property damage.
Francis Mureithi is representing the affected residents in court, alleging negligence on the part of various entities, including NEMA, Nairobi City County, and EPRA.
The suit accuses these parties of allowing the operation of a gas refill facility in a residential area without proper safeguards. The Nairobi County government is blamed for failing to protect residents and respond effectively to the tragedy.

Maxxis Nairobi Energy, the facility operator, is accused of safety lapses and neglecting victims’ needs. The petitioner seeks compensation, medical treatment, housing, and general damages for the affected individuals and families.
Recent developments include the arraignment of the facility owner and NEMA officials. The case will be discussed in the High Court on May 29th.
