Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has confirmed that all Kenyan workers heading to Qatar, in three separate groups, have arrived safely in Doha.
Mutua explained that upon arrival, the workers were warmly welcomed by their respective employers and government officials at the airport, who quickly assisted them in getting to their destinations.
He also mentioned that the fourth and final group, which left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday, has arrived safely, completing this phase of the deployment.
“A total of 300 Kenyan workers have embarked on this transformative journey over the past few days. The first group of 30 departed Nairobi two days ago, followed by the second group of 28 and the third group of 80 on Thursday,” he said.
“The final group of 145 arrived this morning and is now settling in, ready to start work and gain valuable skills,” he added.
Mutua highlighted the workers as embodying the resilience and hard work of the Kenyan spirit. He also noted that they are excited to improve their lives while contributing to Kenya’s development through remittances and the expertise they will bring back.
He emphasized that this program reflects the government’s commitment to empowering the youth and addressing unemployment challenges in Kenya.
“This accomplishment showcases President William Ruto’s government’s dedication to creating secure, meaningful, and dignified job opportunities abroad, while ensuring the safety and welfare of all workers,” Mutua said.
During Jamhuri Day celebrations on Thursday, President Ruto reiterated his administration’s focus on boosting Kenya’s economy by creating jobs, noting that the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) prioritizes reducing the cost of living through job creation.
In his Jamhuri Day 2024 address, Ruto also pledged to secure two million overseas jobs for Kenyans.
