The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has published a photo of a man they believe is a key suspect in the murder of 23-year-old Seth Nyakio Njeri in Thika.

The suspect, identified as Ken Kimathi Gichunuku, also known as Sultan, is wanted for questioning to assist with the ongoing investigation. The DCI also noted that the suspect has other pending criminal cases.
Njeri’s body was found on October 14, 2024, at her friend’s residence in the Blessing Building, Biafra Estate, Thika. A post-mortem conducted on October 17, 2024, by the Government Pathologist, alongside the family’s pathologist and lawyer, determined that Njeri died from asphyxia due to manual strangulation and smothering. The Homicide Department at the DCI is leading the investigation.
The murder has sparked concerns about a possible pattern of women being targeted in killings. However, police have rejected these claims, emphasizing that murder is a criminal act treated equally regardless of gender.
In the past three months, over 400 murders have been reported, with approximately 100 victims being women. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja assured the public that investigations are being carried out thoroughly, with suspects identified and taken to court, though some cases remain unsolved.

To better address such incidents, a specialized Missing Persons Unit has been set up at the DCI, and Gender Desks have been activated at police stations nationwide to handle gender-based violence cases swiftly.
