Just two days after a fire destroyed the Form One dormitory at Isiolo Girls High School, a blaze has struck Isiolo Boys High School, which is located only a short distance away.
The fire erupted on Tuesday evening while students were attending their evening classes.
Efforts by students to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers were unsuccessful, as the fire quickly grew too intense for them to control. The Isiolo County government’s fire and rescue team arrived about an hour later and managed to put out the fire.
The situation briefly escalated when police had to prevent neighbors from joining the firefighting efforts. The crowd, frustrated, began throwing stones at passing vehicles, but police quickly restored order.
This incident is the latest in a series of fires that have plagued Kenyan schools over the past two weeks. Last Saturday, a fire at Isiolo Girls High School’s Form One dormitory injured three students and destroyed property.
Prior to that, a fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County resulted in the deaths of at least 21 students and left others injured.
