Government Reports Fourth Mpox Case in the Country

Public Health and Professional Standards PS Mary Muthoni has announced the confirmation of the fourth Mpox case in the country.

The new case involves a truck driver from Mombasa traveling to Rwanda. The driver began feeling unwell on August 28 while passing through Gilgil and was unable to continue his journey, according to Muthoni’s statement on X.

The Gilgil Sub-County Rapid Response Team was promptly sent to assess the situation. The patient has been transferred to the Nakuru PGH Isolation Centre, where he is in stable condition.

Previously confirmed cases were located in Taita Taveta, Busia, and Nairobi.

The National Public Health Laboratory has processed 90 samples to date, with four returning positive and two awaiting confirmation.

Currently, 30 contacts are being monitored in Busia, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Nakuru.

As of August 31, the Ministry of Health reports that 599,380 individuals have been screened, with 16,533 people screened at entry points in the past 24 hours.
