Ugandan President Slams Babu Owino During Raila Odinga’s AU Launch

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni criticized Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Tuesday for backing his political rivals.

During his comments, Museveni suggested that some members of Raila Odinga’s camp were unaware of their actions. He elaborated that intelligence reports frequently mention Owino due to his support for anti-National Resistance Movement (NRM) activities.

The NRM is Uganda’s ruling party, led by Museveni himself.

“There are individuals in Raila’s camp who underestimate my knowledge. I receive intelligence reports and frequently see Babu involved with anti-NRM groups,” Museveni stated.

He added that while he had previously refrained from accusing Owino, he was doing so now.

Owino has been an outspoken supporter of Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, publicly aligning with his movement and ideas.

Museveni made these remarks during the launch of Raila Odinga’s campaign for the African Union Commission chairmanship at State House, Nairobi. He reiterated his support for Odinga, highlighting his understanding of continental challenges.

“I know Raila from his work with nationalists and Pan-Africanists,” Museveni remarked.
