Governor Wavinya Urges Public Participation on Muguka Ban

Wavinya Ndeti, the Governor of Machakos, has urged for community involvement to discuss the potential prohibition of Muguka in the county.

Speaking at a church service in Machakos, she emphasized the detrimental effects of Muguka on the youth and stressed the importance of collective decision-making through public participation. She highlighted the need for churches to engage with young people to address the issue effectively.

Wavinya Ndeti also mentioned the establishment of the Machakos Youth Service to provide training and rehabilitation for affected individuals.

This call for public involvement aligns with similar sentiments expressed nationwide, with some Kenyans advocating for a permanent ban on the sale and consumption of Muguka. The initiative was initially proposed by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, who identified the widespread availability and use of the stimulant drug as a significant challenge in his county.

Other regions, such as Kilifi and Kwale counties, have also taken measures to regulate Muguka, including imposing heavy taxes.

Salim Mvurya, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, has echoed the need for a national discussion to find comprehensive solutions for regulating Muguka.

He emphasized the devastating impact of the drug on the youth in coastal areas and expressed full support for the measures taken by coastal governors in addressing the issue.
