Empowering Girls: MCA Kitute Stresses Menstrual Health Education

Yatta Kwavonza Ward MCA, Mark Kitute Nding’o, took the opportunity to address students at Yatta Primary School in Kitui Rural, Kitui County, as Kenya observed International Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Nding’o emphasized that this day signifies more than just acknowledging the significance of menstrual hygiene; it’s also about dismantling the taboos and shame associated with menstruation. He stressed the importance of empowering girls, educating boys, and engaging the entire community in a dialogue crucial for health and well-being.

“Menstruation is a natural and vital aspect of life. It indicates good health and underscores the strength of your bodies. Never allow anyone to make you feel ashamed of this natural process,” Nding’o conveyed to the pupils.

He highlighted the necessity of providing accurate information and resources for managing menstrual health with dignity and confidence. Nding’o urged parents and guardians to foster open and honest discussions about menstruation at home, creating a supportive environment where girls feel comfortable seeking help and sharing their experiences without fear of judgment.

Nding’o called for collective efforts to eliminate embarrassment and isolation associated with menstruation. He advocated for policies ensuring free or affordable menstrual products, clean and private sanitation facilities, and comprehensive menstrual health education.

Emphasizing that menstrual hygiene is not solely a women’s issue but a matter of human rights, Nding’o urged for open discussions to promote health, education, and equality. He concluded by envisioning a future where every girl can manage her period with pride and where community members understand and support this natural process.
