Several people are currently caught beneath the wreckage of a collapsed building in the Kiamaiko locality of Nairobi County.
Witnesses report that more than ten individuals were scavenging for scrap materials within the building, which had been earmarked for demolition. Without warning, the structure gave way on Tuesday afternoon.
Efforts to rescue those trapped are underway, with concerns also raised about children being among those stuck. Three individuals were promptly extricated from the rubble according to locals.
The demolition process had momentarily halted when the building’s stability faltered, leading to its collapse.
At Press time authorities from both the National and County Government are yet to provide an official statement.
